Richard Hugh Giffin, age 91, of Clarkesville, Georgia, passed away on Monday, February 25, 2013, at his residence.
Mr. Giffin was born on May 23, 1921, in Osborn, Ohio, to the late Vere and Dorothy Burris Giffin. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Fern Scott Giffin; sister, Ila Mears; and brothers, Luther, Robert, Charles, Dale, and Bruce Giffin. Mr. Giffin was a United States Army World War II Veteran having proudly served in the Pacific Theater. He was a retired statistician with Fairchild Republic Company with 42 years of service. Mr. Giffin was a life member of the Grant Reeves V.F.W. Post #7720, the Clarkesville Lions Club, and numerous volunteer organizations in the community. He was also a member of First Presbyterian Church of Clarkesville. Our father served as the very finest example of pure unconditional love, the best dad, husband, grandpa, son, uncle, brother, and neighbor or friend anyone could want.
Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Bob Shipman, Clarkesville, GA; daughters, Pam Giffin, Easley, SC and Betty Giffin, Demorest, GA; sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald and Maureen Giffin, Riverhead, NY and Tim and Susan Giffin, East Meadow, NY; 14 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 28, 2013, at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest, Georgia, with Rev. Lisa Graves officiating. Interment will follow in the V.F.W. Memorial Park with full military honors provided by the Habersham County American Legion Post #84, the Grant Reeves V.F.W. Post #7720, the Rabun County D.A.V. Chapter #15, and the Georgia National Guard.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, February 27, 2013, at the funeral home.
