Cecil Clifford McGehee, age 87 of Gainesville, passed away on Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at his residence following an extended illness.
Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, February 21, 2013 at 3:00 pm in the Chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home with interment to follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Reverend Mike Taylor, Reverend J. L. Yopp, Reverend Richie Lewis and Reverend Chris Anderson will officiate. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 20, 2013 from 2 – 4 pm and 6 – 8 pm at the funeral home.
Mr. McGehee was born April 28, 1925 in Barrettsville, Georgia, and raised in Gainesville. He was the son of the late Clifford “G.C.” McGehee and Lonia Ferguson McGehee. Cecil went to Main Street School and Gainesville High and worked at the ship yards in Savannah during World War II before going into the gas station business. He was the owner/operator of McGehee Amoco Station for 42 years. Cecil loved to spend time with family on picnics and short trips and loved his 3 daughters dearly. He was saved at the age of 8 and was a member of Westside Baptist Church. Cecil was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Aurora “Vickie” Smith.
Mr. McGehee is survived by his wife of 60 years, Shirley Stephens McGehee of Gainesville, daughter, Sandra & husband, Glenn Long of Cleveland, daughter, Elaine & husband, Jim Wade of Gainesville, daughter, Jane & husband, Tom Morris of Flowery Branch, brother, Almon McGehee of Gainesville, six grandsons, Matt Wade & wife, Tracy, Josh Wade & wife, Jennifer, Michael Long, Keith Long, Luke Morris and Jake Morris, nine great-grandchildren and many close family and friends.
