Passed Away: 11/17/2012

Mary “Cool” Elizabeth Richardson Powell of Gainesville, passed away on Saturday, November 17, 2012 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center following a sudden illness.

Mary “Cool” was born June 20, 1937 in Cleveland, Georgia to the late Valon Richardson and Cassie Dorsey Richardson. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church. Mary “Cool” was a pillar of her community. She fed and watered everyone who was hungry. She raised 4 boys, a niece, nephew and countless neighborhood kids. Mary made sure that each one of her sons graduated from High School and that all four sons served their country in the U.S. Armed Forces. Everyone called her “Cool” and she called everyone “Cool” because that is what she was. She was a Prayer Warrior who worked tirelessly for her church serving in various church organizations such as the Willing Worker Club and Choir. She owned four businesses, giving back to the community by feeding the hungry, visiting the sick and counseling others. Mary wrote editorials for The Gainesville Times, trying to unite the community through prayer and common sense. You could call her about any problem and you walked away feeling better about whatever you were going through. Beloved Mary will be missed by the entire Gainesville Community, but not forgotten. We love you!
