Passed Away: 09/17/2012

Robert Lawton Fogle, 68 of Gainesville, GA died Monday, September 17, 2012 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center following an extended illness. Mr. Fogle has been a resident of Gainesville for the past 14 years.

He was the son of the late Thomas Carlisle and Eddith Irene Fogle. Born in Brunswick, GA, but raised in Spring Field, SC where he graduated from Springfield high School and enlisted in the US Army. Robert served with the 3rd Armor Division, “SPEARHEAD” from 1962 – 1965 as a tank mechanic while stationed in Germany.

Mr. Fogle has been a professional truck driver for over 40 years and has been the recipient of numerous safe driving awards. He worked for J&R Schugel Trucking Company for the last 16 years and is known for his C.B. handle “Papa Smurf” to family, friends, and professional truckers across the country. Robert was a loving, devoted and dedicated; son, husband, father and friend. He was always hard working and never afraid of working hard.

Survivors include his loving wife for the past 44 years, Cherry Ann Fogle of Gainesville; son and daughter-in-law, Robert Wayne and Brenna Fogle of Coral Springs, FL, John Wesley and Jennifer Fogle of Gainesville; daughter and son-in-law, Virginia Kate and Chris Smith of London, KY; son and daughter-in-law, John Wayne and Jennifer Fogle of Peoria, AZ; daughter and son-in-law, Monica Kate and Jamie Harrison of Royston; 18 grandchildren and 1 great grandson. Mr. Fogle is also survived by his brother, James Cleveland Fogle of Anderson, IN; sister, Dorothy Fogle Thomas of Hoschton; brother, Charles Carlisle Fogle of Lexington, SC; sister, Carol Elaine Schwantes of Dennard, AR; Jean Elizabeth Johnson of Andrews, NC; 3 nieces and 5 nephews also survive.

Robert is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Carlisle and Eddith Irene Fogle; oldest brother, Thomas Lee Fogle; and one grandchild, Matthew Ryan Fogle.

Robert L. Fogle will have a full Military burial with the following honorary pallbearers; sons, Wayne, Wesley “Wes” and John Fogle; grandsons, Drake and Joseph “Joey” Fogle and Dawson Brock; nephew, Matthew Jeremiah Johnson.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 23, 2012 in the chapel of Little & Davenport Funeral Home. Pastor Reece will officiate. Interment will be on Monday, September 24, 2012 at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA. at 1:00 p.m. The family will receive family members at the funeral home on Saturday, September 22, 2012 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. They will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, September 23, 2012 from 12:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. with a reception following the chapel service.

In lieu of flowers the family has asked that memorial contributions be made to his wife, Cherry A. Fogle at P.O. Box 6093, Gainesville, GA 30504, to help with final arrangements.
