Banks County

Banks County is located in the beautiful Piedmont Region of North Georgia adjacent to the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The county seat of Homer, with an approximate population of nearly 7917, is the county's only municipality. The land area comprises 234 square miles and has an elevation of 1700 feet.

Banks County is served by several major highways. It is an important link in the I-85 corridor connecting with Atlanta, 62 miles to the southeast, with Greenville, S.C. and Charlotte, N.C. to the northeast. U.S. 441, Georgia's most heavily traveled route, provides direct access to the North Georgia mountains as well as providing an alternate route for many Florida-bound tourists. In addition to U.S. 441, Georgia Highways 51, 98, and 15 also have access to I-85.

Banks County is ideally located for tourist travel. Several motels and numerous restaurants accommodate a steady flow of travelers and busloads of shoppers who come to take advantage of the huge variety of merchandise and collectibles in the outlet stores at Bank Crossing/Exit 53 at I-85 and U.S. Highway 441.
